The 2014 Cannes Film Festival poster features the all time classy Marcello Mastroianni in a picture taken from the 1963 Italian film “8½”. Directed by Federico Fellini, “8½” screened out of competition in Cannes Film Festival back in 1963. That year the “Palme d’ Or” was awarded to director Luchino Visconti for “The Leopard” (more info from 8½-wikipedia).
Yet both Marcelo Mastroianni and Federico Fellini have been awarded in Cannes Film Festival. Federico Fellini had won “Palme d’ Or” three years earlier, in 1960, for “La Dolce Vita” starring again Marcelo Mastroianni, who won twice the award for best actor in 1970 for the film “Jealousy, Italian Style” (directed by Ettore Scola) and in 1987 for the film “Dark Eyes” (directed by Nikita Mikhalkov).
67th Cannes Film Festival dates: 14-25 May 2014.
