Here is CinemaFriend’s suggestion for the two leading roles of the moviebased on the first book “50 Shades of Grey” by British author E.L. James.

“50 Shades of Grey” is the first book of a trilogy of erotic novels which have become a worldwide selling phenomenon making their author Erica Leonard (who signs the books as E.L. James) the new best-selling author of Amazon UK (replacing Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling). “50 Shades of Grey” has also reached the top of “The New York Times” best-seller list. Of course Hollywood couldn’t miss this opportunity. The trilogy rights have been sold and the production companies will soon start the role casting. The choices are endless so let’s give them a helping hand.

The easy selection first. The role of 27-year-old handsome billionaire with grey eyes and demanding taste, Mr. Christian Grey. In the book, when the young Anastasia meets Mr. Grey for the first time is impressed not just by his beauty (there are at least 50 beautiful actors waiting in line) but mostly by his sharp look. The way he looks and smiles at her is starting to make her feel in a whole different way. But that’s only the beginning, the technical part that a good-looking actor and a smart director can show us on the big screen. The difficult part is the next one. Christian Grey’s character is what makes him irresistible and separates him from the other candidates Anastasia has rejected in the past (let’s ignore the fact that he is also a billionaire!).

Ryan Gosling has played in similar roles but without the risk of being trapped in a specific role type. He has approximately the same age as Grey (Gosling was born in 1980), is tall, handsome but his most irresistible feature is his look. Gosling has already been nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in “Half Nelson” (2006). Could this make him too good for this role? Not if you think that the trilogy of the books “50 Shades of Grey”, “50 Shades Darker” and “50 Shades Freed” has sold more than 40.000.000 copies worldwide and the movie is expected to be a huge success.

But what about the leading female role of the book. Young Anastasia Steele, a literature student who hasn’t found Mr. Perfect yet meets Mr. Grey. Anastasia is very shy and unfortunately this is revealed not only by her clumsy moves but also by her blushing pale face which betrayes almost every single thought of hers. Soon the desire for Christian awakes her dark side and her innocence falls in an eternal sleep.

Who could play the role of Anastasia? This is a tricky one. There are many young, talented actresses out there who could be considered as candidates (some of them have even revealed their interest like “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale). One of them is Shailene Woodley. She matches the description physically. She is beautiful, thin, with brown shy-looking eyes. She also has approximately the same age as young Anastasia. In 2011, Shailene Woodley starred in the “Descendants” next to George Clooney, in a role which gave her a nomination for a Golden Globe.  This was her first role in the movies which makes her a fresh face with a lot of potentials. That’s exactly what Mr. Grey had in mind…

So, how many of you have read the book? Do you think that it is overrated? What about CinemaFriend’s suggestions?
